Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge today announced the appointment of two individuals to serve as senior officials in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security.
Secretary Ridge appointed Susan K. Neely of Iowa, to be Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs. She previously served as Special Assistant to the President for Communications in the Office of Homeland Security at the White House. Prior to that, Ms. Neely was Senior Vice President of the Association of American Medical Colleges. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa and received her MPA from Drake University.
Secretary Ridge appointed Alfonso Martinez-Fonts, Jr. of New York, to serve as Special Assistant to the Secretary for the private sector. He retired last year after 30 years of service with JP Morgan Chase Bank and its predecessors. He most recently served as chairman and CEO of JP Morgan Chase Bank in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Martinez-Fonts served as chairman of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and was president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City. He is a graduate of Villanova and received his MBA from Long Island University.
